Back to School and Your Child's Social Media!

It's Back to School time around the country, in our area districts have been going back since July 31st. With kids going back to school comes new connections on social media. Different ages are on different platforms, know where your child hangs out on social media. Check up on them, be engaging on your child's social media platforms. 
Know about the vaults that hold secret photos and more, this is especially important for the high school age groups- so much happens on social media. Is your child sending or receiving nude photo's? Just the other day at lunch with my teenage son and a few of his friends they were telling me of girls on Instagram looking for people to send nudes to. Come on!! Know what your child is doing! 
As parents we are raising our children to be respectful, productive members of society. We pay for their phones and the service they have so it is our right to "browse" and see what they are doing online. Colleges search online and so do potential employers. Educate your children about the good and bad of putting everything out on social media.

Wilmington, N.C., to host 2017 World Developmental Football League’s East Coast Championship Game & Concert
The 2017 WDFL-East Coast Championship Game is more than just great football and a Nashville talent concert: it is an event that directly benefits Stop Soldier Suicide. Each day, an average of 22 veterans takes their own lives. Proceeds from ticket sales will promote the effort of this non-profit in their work helping veterans and their families to deal with post-tour effects.
The all-ages event will take place at Legion Stadium on Saturday, September 16, 2017. Veterans and motorcycle enthusiasts are encouraged to attend when the gates open at 8 a.m. for a 500-600 motorcycle showcase. This is free to the public.
The concert features two Nashville recording artists who have written songs to honor the families of our armed forces. “The X-Factor”s David Kroll, (“Little Soldiers”) and unBRAKEable Duo’s, (“Black Rain”) written and performed by Blake Gray with husband Brian Nutter, (Keith Urban’s former lead guitar player) along with Whiskey Diablo from Charleston, SC, are putting on an incredible concert for supporters of Stop Soldier Suicide.
The winning football team moves on to the WDFL National Championship later this year. Frank Shourds, Executive Vice President of the WDFL, is excited about the WDFL’s purpose, stating “We are preparing players for the future of their dreams. Mental preparedness is one of the key elements in the development of future professional football players. We teach them things they never learned in college so they can move on to become better people and extraordinary players.”

Your Personal Social Personality Matters to your Business.

3 Reasons why Personal Social Media Profiles (Personality) Matter as a Small Business Owner

  • Even with a separate business presence, people still associate you with your business. In fact – especially if you are a service provider – there’s a high likelihood current or past customers will refer you to others by using your first and last name instead of your business. Who did you use when you sold your home? Who did you call to paint your kitchen? What dentist do you see?
  • Customers and potential customers will look you up on their favorite social media sites and may even request to friend or follow you personally, either in addition to connecting to your business profiles or instead of. They may also find your personal social media profiles in search if a friend or relative referred them to you by your name (vs. your business). Google favors all social media bios in search, so those accounts likely rank high on Page 1 of search results for you. Be extra aware of this if you make public posts on your Facebook profile, or have a public Twitter or Instagram account. That ‘hot button’ post you published might be OK for your personal friends and family, but might ruffle a few feathers if it’s publicly viewable and your customers are connected to your personal social media profiles.
  • Looking at this point from a different view…why not use your personal social media profiles to tell more of your story? Since you are the business owner and you are – essentially – the business, why not provide a deeper look into your day to day life to help your customers and potential customers connect with you. Those personal glimpses can build a stronger, deeper connection, and can either win you new customers or turn existing customers into super fans. Positive, happy posts are the ones to make public or post to profiles that are always public so your customers can get to know you as a person and not just as a business owner.
As an added bonus, you can also occasionally share your business posts over to your personal social media profiles. It’s not something you want to do for 100% of your business’ social media posts, but here and there is wise because it may increase the exposure of your business and more often than not, your friends and family do appreciate knowing what’s happening with your business.
